If your struggling to close the seed slot on a Case IH 500/550 (or New Holland 2080/2180/2085/2185) this option really works well across a wide range of conditions, from minimum till all the way through medium moisture no-till. They are more aggressive than the factory 4″ wide wheels, but not as aggressive as the Needham Poly 20 Point Crumbler Wheels that we sell (these are recommended for higher moisture no-till soils).
Our 2 x 13″ wheels feature two heavy duty steel wheel halves, a long-life Peer SeedXTreme bearing (currently sells for $19.00) and a 2″ wide rubber tire.
NOTE – We don’t recommend adding the 2 x 13″ wheels to a Case 500/500T/ New Holland 2080/2085 without the angle changer, as the factory arm runs too straight and it doesn’t have the necessary gathering action to utilize the wheel. The newer Case IH 550 or New Holland 2180/2185 has their own factory included angle adjust bracket on each opener, to change the gathering action of the closing wheel. A steep angle is not recommended, as it can move too much soil (especially at higher speeds), so a small angle is required to close the seed slot and minimize the soil movement.
